Redundancy for Self Employed

I heard it was possible to claim redundancy from the government if you are a company director / Self employed. i would be interested in hearing from people who know how to do this?

After all isn't this what you pay National Insurance for?

Thanks.

Are you a director of a limited company or a self employed person?

If you have paid NI contributions under the paye scheme for the last two years you should claim for contributions based jobseekers allowance which is £60.50 per week for 6 months.

A director is not an employee so redundancy is not applicable.

I can't see how a director can be declared redundant. I thought directors were appointed and removed by the shareholders.

I think we need more of the background, in this case.

Sorry mental block I read redundancy as JSA! That's because that's what I have been preoccupied with for the last week.

I don't think you have a leg to stand on claiming redundancy to be honest...

Is your company just yourself? Or do you employ people?

I suspect it is just yourself because if not then surely the employees would be made redundant before the director (if even possible). And if that's true then isn't that the same as the company going into liquidation?
