I'd just buy the whole sector if it was normal0

1/9/04 - Following the passing of the Resolutions at the EGM held yesterday, 4,178,690,000 Ordinary Shares of 0.1p each have been consolidated to 41,786,900 New Ordinary Shares of 10p each
which means if you had kept them, you would now hold 50 shares worth £210 - costs, rather than 21k's worth
I didn't lose that much then lol0 -
I had a phase of buying penny shares some years ago. Most of them did consolidations (I think that is what it is called) so instead of having 1000 shares I ended up with about 10:mad: This happened to most of them in fact. I can honestly say I lost money on the lot and they were all tips from a penny share mag.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0

Never buy on tips, but if you learn something then you havent lost completely
All the newspaper tips etc are only good for a general background on the share, its worth watching till the next results before deciding on it.

Lots of dittos here. Lost money / shares all consolidated ..... and they all 'morphed into something completely different! I bought shares in one company selling grass cutting equipment in the UK and US (very hot tip that one was!) ...... and finished, years down the track, with a cinema chain! The phrase 'shell company' got used a lot I seem to remember .... mainly as an excuse?happymumto2 wrote:Shares now worth 420p each (21k!,
Prompted by a question on here ..... I remembered some penny shares I'd just written off as being useless. There'd been a rights issue .... and I'd finished with approx 5000. So not quite sure whether I was amused / bemused or definitely livid ....... to discover they'd been worth £60,000 up to a couple of years before. Short thread here ..... your Emerald Energy also has a mention!

My ex - £60k Certificate is still in it's box! Don't have the heart to tear it up.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
in 1993, I was on the verge of purchasing £5k worth of Acorn shares for 6p each. during 1994 they peaked at 240p on a takeover. totally gutted"enough is a feast"...old Buddist proverb0

Shares now worth 420p each (21k!, oh what fools we are when we are young!).
Does anyone know where you can get info on penny shares these days, we just used to pick a nice name of Ceefax back then!
In August 2004, Emerald Energy consolidated its shares on the basis of 1 new ordinary share for 100.
By my estimates, if this was the only considation your £120 would be worth £210 now.0 -
The trick is to buy a great company at a cheap price
And whilst there are not many in the penny share list, there are some bargains out there
BUT, only for the brave
Anyone wh thinks they know what happens in the next three months is a fool
However, if you are prepared to buy and hold for five years, then a selection of strong companies across some sectors is a one way bet0 -

no it isn't, unless you are guaranteeing it personally0
