Hi all,

I work as a plumber . I rent 3 x 0113 numbers from a company called my divert. These all divert to a landline number .
I have extensive advertising in Yellow pages etc so these numbers are really important .
The numbers do not work anymore. An email from mydivert.com says that the number provider , icommunicate, is in dispute with BT financially . The business phones are unanswered and the web site is down. I did speak to the owner on his mobile who said the numbers would be up and running again , but I have my doubts.
I need to get these numbers back on ASAP. My question is how do I do this? Where is the cheapest and fastest way to transfer them? Any reccomendations please?

Thanks

I suggest you seek advice from the Ofcom Advisory Team on 020 7981 3040 or 0300 123 3333 on how to solve your problem.
  • I was looking to set up an account with mydivert but they seem to want a lot of personal info (despite me using a paypal account).

I need a London phone number for business purposes so I don't want any problems with my provider. Can anyone vouch for this company or recommend an alternative???

In my search to transfer my numbers I found these , unable to port my numbers but for new numbers its £3 month.

More expensive than my divert but cannot comment on reliability.
BT do them, Im sure they are reliable but was told they are £100 quarter!

  • Thanks bestyman - Tamar at least have a phone number so you can call them with any queries! For reference they charge as follows:

    £3 per month per number
£50 deposit (if diverting to a mobile)
12p - 14p per minute for incoming calls diverted to a mobile (depending on network)
1.5p per minute for incoming calls diverted to a landline

I might sign up with these guys unless anyone can recommend anywhere else that is cheaper / better (I need a London number that I can divert to a mobile)...

    Hi,
Seems plenty of companies out there but prices vary greatly. Keep googleing .

My advise would be to try get a few numbers off different companies and put at least 2 numbers in each advert so if one company goes down all is not lost .

Luckily for me my adverts dont rely soley on these numbers or I would be posting in the bancrupcy forum.

A London number that diverts to a mobile or landline:

Sipgate (www.sipgate.co.uk) will give you a London number, at no cost, which is intended for using for VOIP calling. However, you don't need to set up a VOIP phone to use the number. Once you're registered with Sipgate, you can then alter your call settings. You can set up call forwarding to any other number - landline, mobile, international, VOIP - and select forwarding to occur immediately or after a certain number of seconds. This should be all you need. You pay for the forwarded call, unless it's forwarded to a VOIP number. Sipgate's call charges are pretty reasonable - 1.19p/min to UK landline, 9.9p/min to UK mobile. You put a certain amount of credit onto your account in advance, and then your credit balance reduces every time you make a chargeable call.

I have had a Sipgate account for several years now, and I am 100% satisfied with their system and their support. Emails are usually answered within an hour, and usually answer the question accurately and politely. (As you may have found, this does not always apply in the telecoms industry.)

I hope this will help you.

The same holds true with Skype's 'Skype In' service - a wide range of geographic numbers. You cannot port your existing number - which belobg to a different carrier, but they ARE much cheaper.
  • Thanks for your help - I've gone with Sipgate.

I emailed them a query first as a test and got a good reply within 5 minutes.

I did have to set up a VOIP phone to use the call forwarding feature however as you have to call 10200 via VOIP to get a password in order to credit money to your account the first time.

Anyway all done now and seems good so thanks again!
  • I use TTNC (The Telephone Number Company) and I find them good

It is a Pay as you go facility- you top it up and the calls come off as they are diverted

    baldly going on...

    Both http://www.orbtalk.co.uk/free-number/ and http://personal.coms.com/
will supply you with numbers free of any connection charge, and monthly rental ,with free voicemail ,on a payg basis . All you pay for is calls diverted to landlines or mobiles.
