Thanks EmmaL, do you think there will be something on this within the next week?
I'm just waiting on an official statement and I'm hoping I will get this before the end of the week.
Cheers

Turns out the outgoing owners had TalkTalk - hence no cease order was showing up on BT's system.
TalkTalk are now saying that they can't do anything until Tuesday (move tomorrow). Oh...unless I can get the old lady we're buying off on the phone at the same time, so she can close here account then pass the phone to me to take it over.
YCNMIU
Moreover, they can't search their systems based on the address to tell me exactly what the status of the existing account is :rotfl: Waiting on a call back from the estate agent, to find out the phone number so I can try again...
And Virgin have informed me that they are going to try and stitch me up with a £69 for leaving them - because I didn't give them 30 days' notice. Who on earth gets more than 30 days' notice that their house purchase is going through?
And they had the brass neck to ask why I wasn't having Virgin at the new place - how about the fact that they are the kind of company who'll charge you £69 to leave them?:mad:0 -
Right….
Got hold of the existing phone number for the property, and called TalkTalk back…
Couldn't/wouldn't tell me the status of the cancellation. Basically sad that it would take up to two weeks for them to close down the old account, then I'd have to request a new line.
Essentially, if you move into a property with TalkTalk (or anyone else?) you are stuck with no phone service for at least two weeks - "I know it sounds stupid, but there's nothing we can do".
So if I'd just gone for the 11 working days' lead time BT quoted me last week,
I'd be half-way there.

OK...
Now spoken to BT.
As things stand, I can request the service from them - but seeing as it is still with TalkTalk, it would be chargeable and take 11 working days.
Once TalkTalk actually pull their thumbs out of their back-sides and close the account (it's been over a week already) the line becomes 'free' and can be connected in 2 days and for no charge.
So I've just got to keep calling BT back each day to check the status of the line, and hope TalkTalk wake up from their stupor.0 -
Hi Guys,
Firstly - if an account holder has requested a cancelation on a telephone service the provider has to action it regardless of the requests of the person moving into the property. Account cancelations with TalkTalk take 10-14 days.
Secondly - I've had a statement back regarding the new instalation of telephone lines.
"We have been developing a process to provide new line installations on our broadband package MyTalkTalk, we have a team currently in training and will soft launch the service on the 17th March. We are currently planning to communicate full details of the package on the talktalk.co.uk website in April. I can give you some early information though; the installation price will be in the region of £50 for each line. Certain line installations (e.g. to remote addresses) are unlikely to be possible at launch. You can register interest with the sales team who will take any customers details and call them back once the service is on offer to customers."
Cheers

I have already been speaking to TalkTalk about this and they'd already taken my telephone number promising they'd call me back shortly with news of a new landline installation service - I was a bit sceptical but I'm very pleased now to read your message! Still, it's all SO-oooooo confusing trying to work out who to sign up with. BT are making a big thing about their free calls to 08 numbers, and having spent a fortune calling these recently I'm still minded to sign up with BT after all. BUT I've just seen the Talk Talk offer through Carphone Warehouse - £10.50 pm for a year, free calls plus broadband, so add on the £80 saving on phone line connection and it all looks promising. However - add up the cost of my time spent trying to sort all this out, and still no nearer getting it sorted out, and you have to ask if it wouldn't have been better simply to have booked with the first provider I got hold of.....0
