Oh I don't know about that. A bit of sarcastic, infantile drivel is sometimes just the thing.

On the note of not taking this seriously. Well for a lot of us we had the best thread ever a short while back on the same subject, and I think when this appeared we were already partly in fun mode.

Do you mean the one that I started?

This reminds me of just before the Millenium when fearful souls were stockpiling food and water for the Armageddon that was supposed to happen in what form they werent sure but it never came to pass. Lets hope it never happens this time either whatever it is.

There is a lot people can do, I was just wondering how many have started consciously.

    For me I am:

    stockpiling food and other supplies

    growing fruit and veg

researching and learning how to dehydrate food (takes much less storage space)

paying back debt as fast as we can

    saving an emergency fund (slowly)

researching how to store food long term

converted my family to powdered milk so I can store a lot of it

    Things like that....

What an interesting thread. It gives an insight into how people on the fringes cope with adversity, and it provides an interesting insight into people's mentality.

Out of interest, are you still stockpiling food in case we have a double-dip? How much money did you lose by pursuing this strategy? (I.e. you mentioned that your powdered milk was more expensive than normal milk, did anything else cost more, did you have much wastage?)

Do you feel foolish looking back, or feel that you prepared for the worst?

Nothing was wasted, I use it as I go along. We didnt used to use powdered milk before I started this, but now we have got used to it, when we run out of fresh I can always make up a jug of milk for the morning and the kids use it no problem.

I dont feel foolish at all, although my husband was not made redundant so we havent had to rely on the stockpiled food. It just means that I can afford to not go shopping for weeks and just eat from what we have. It wasnt an over reaction, it just felt like a sensible thing to do at the start of the recession, when we were in debt and with the threat of redundancy over us.

So do you feel better about things now, not a dig but it would be nice to gauge if your view has changed.
