Hello again, needing helping help again. I have just noticed that I have been paying for 2 Life Insurances to the same company since July 2008. The company is Royal Scottish Assurance. I phoned them earlier today and was told when I took this new policy out I never cancelled the old one, reason for new policy was I renewed my mortgage with another lender. I tried to explain to them that I am a single mother with 2 children and that I had no need for 2 insurances and they said on the form in front of them the box that said ' do you want to cancel this policy was Ticked No' so as I had not cancelled it the old policy kept running. I am trying to reclaim all these past payments and they are saying at no point did I say I needed it cancelled but I as I tried to tell them all I did was renew it and at no time do I remember being asked if I wanted the old one cancelled . I can understand when they said if I had died they would have paid out on both, but they do not seem to understand that I never wanted 2 in the first place.
Any help or advice on this matter would be much appreciated thank-you:o

Hi - i posted a very similar message earlier on today as I am pretty much in the same situation. I have been paying for 2 policies through the same company since 05 although I certainly do not need 2 policies. I had exactly the same response from my provider as you as they could not find any evidence of a request to cancel the existing policy. I do feel stupid having not noticed before but I am also convinced that this was requested as a replacement, not an additional, policy.
I have completed a complaints form over the phone with the provider and they will write within 5 days to inform me of the next steps. Sorry I cant be any help at the moment but I will let you know if anything happens.
Good luck.0 -

Check your bank statements more often! ie. every time you get them - and thoroughly.
As a single parent with two chidlren you can not afford to flush good money down the toilet like this. Do you have internet banking? If not - then get it. And use it regularly. Check what you are paying out, what your direct debits are (do you even realise that every direct debit you have ever set up - even if dormant - will still be sitting against your account and could be drawn on (even by accident) - if this happened would you even realise??). There is no excuse for this type of thing going undetected for 7 whole months!
With regards to the complaint, you need to complete the formal complaints procedure with the insurance provider. Call them up and tell them you are making a formal complaint and want a full refund. Once you've gone through this, if you've had no joy, then it's time to go here:

Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0
