turning down quotes

just out of interest do people still contact workmen even if not accepting their quotes to say just that or does the builder presume not being taken up if customer not in touch again ?
i'm just asking as have obtained several quotes for work , have decided on which to take but hate to think other trademen waiting and hoping to get the work when work so scarce at present
thank you

It's always nice to know why you didn't get a job but the very fact that you haven't been in touch will let the tradesman know that he isn't wanted.

I wouldn't worry about it too much - no one wants to be the bearer of bad news.

Indeed, exactly the same as a tradesman who turns up to quote for work, then you never here from them again. Or put in a stupidly high quote as they dont want the work, instead of saying 'no thanks'.
  • It would be nice or of comman decency to let others know that they dont have to job.
Dont have to give the reason as to why. Just write a small letter saying Thanks for your time bla bla bla... yarder yarder yarder... sorry I went for another firm or person.

I have spent most of this week pricing for a few large jobs and a number of small jobs, I'm hoping to have all of the jobs, I know some people just dont bother calling and saying sorry but .....
Just it would be nice to know for sure as to arrange other works etc.

If I've particularly LIKED the tradesman I will drop a line saying we wont be going ahead wth his quote....I'm a chicken though, and will aways do it by text if I have a mobby number ;-)

That way I don't burn my bridges and feel OK about having them quote again in the future for similar work.

I can't say I've ever said 'sorry' for not accepting their quote. I just let them know if I wont be using them at that time.

What makes you think we are "Waiting and Hoping To Get the work" T hink that is a bit OTT,During our working week tradesmen will carry out lots of quotes and personally i stopped worrying along time ago as to wether a job comes our way or not there are too many parameters to consider:

People get quotes on a "wondered" bais
Other companys will be too cheap
    The customer haggles too much
But in 8 years of trading we have never had a rejection letter or call.
