who is having to empty loft to move in a 3 storey house

I moved last yr from a 3bed 2 rec house, to a 2bed 1rec house. The loft was full of things my ex H didn't take, pram and baby clothes (kids 22/27)! Records LP's no record player ! Suitcases, bags and bags of soft toys.
We took so much stuff to the charity shop and the guys at the local dump knew me by my first name !!
But when I got to the new place there were so many boxes we could not move. We have thinned it out but there are still things I can not get rid of.
I have found a great website called freecycle.co.uk you can place things on here in your area, and people come and pick them up, they also place wanted ads. All this is free, and nobody pays for anything!
The weather here at the weekend was nice, so I thought a bit of gardening would be good. On opening the shed door I saw 5 boxes, I had forgotten about, and the mower was under it all, so I have shut the door on that.
Good luck.Be-littling somebody only make's you look a bully.Any comments I make on here are my opinions, having worked in the lettings industry, and through life.0 -
It's been 8 months since we moved. As I said we had a big clearout before we moved. We were constantly at the skip too. This is all stuff we 'need' to keep. You pay thousands of £s for a car, yet all that's in the garage is tat! And all this was kept in our (smaller) previous house as we had no garage!0

about 3 years ago i was round my friends house for tea. she decided to mix up some packet custard with some sponge for afters.
she mixed this stuff up and it was horrible, we talked about how awful it was and she said she was going to write off to the manufacturer and complain, and get her money back.
during this conversation of outrage at what a rubbish product this was and how dare they sell such inferior goods,,,, she noticed that the sell by date was 13 years old
yes, 13 years old and in that time she had moved 4 times. she had taken this packet of custard with her each time.
she is so tight.0 -
jackie - the mirror on the wall in that garage is a nice touch!!!
my mum told me that when we all moved when i was 11,, my dad (who is a terrible horder) took the entire contents of his shed, down to the last nut and bolt that he collected. apparently they were there till midnight literally getting all the goods out of the shed that my dad who finds a use for everything had stored there.
the 'new' shed that they have now had for nearly 30 years is now full of exactly the same stuff, screws and nails of every description, bits of wood, tools, bits of fabric, you name it, its in the shed0 -
That mirror was there when we moved in!
Dh kept plasterboard that was left over from doing the kitchen. It's now bent and no use and it's still there. There's also a teensy wee bit of insulation, which might fit a dogs kennel, but as we have no dog and no kennel, it's no use either. I take my life in my hands every time I go out there to put clothes in the dryer,0 -
I think the charity shop woman thought I was mad cos I kept going in with bag fulls of stuff.
Large amounts of stuff usually means
someone's moving; someone's died; someone's lost loads of weight; someone's thrown their husband out; someone's thrown their tenant out.
One of the strangest things we got in our shop was a holiday suitcase - straight off the plane and sent to our shop. We did wonder if it was a mistake but no one ever rang up about it.0 -

So funny! :rotfl:
H obsesses about the stuff his parents keep. I remember him once going ballistic at them saying they'd given our son 'hundreds and thousands' left over from when he was a kid! They insisted they'd just bought them from Morrisons but he was having none of it.
You have to watch them - his dad has been known to decant really cheap wine into expensive bottles. It's funny when my brother in law drinks it though - he thinks he's a bit of a wine buff!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
