Why are whoopsies called whoopsies?

Food items that are reduced to clear are (rather charmingly) called whoopsies on most OS threads... just wondered who came up with the name! For ages I thought they had been dropped on the floor or damaged!! :rotfl:

Hi tara,
I'm not sure who came up with the name but I know that asda have yellow stickers on their reduced products with the word 'whoops!!' printed on it so that's where I think it may have originated.
As this is a shopping question I'll move it over to the shop but don't drop board where the experts there may be able to give you a more difinitive answer.

I think it was Asda always used to stick yellow stickers on reduced stuff that said whoops - we've ordered to much
Not sure if they still do that, but it sort of stuck:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 -
pinkwinged - not sure if it's necessary to move it, I see the word 'whoopsie' far more often on OS than elsewhere!!!Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

p.s. I didn't know about the Asda thing... I shop mostly as Tesco and Sainsbury's (no Asda near me so hardly ever go). It all makes sense now!Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

Hi tara,
As it's specifically a shopping thread rather than and Old style thread I believe it's in the best place on the shop but don't drop board where your query may help others who don't know what whoopsie means.
Now that you have the answer to your question I'm not really clear why you want the thread moved back to the Old Style board?

Pink - I thought it might be helpful to the newbies. Might not get too many views/replies on Shop but don't drop board. But it doesn't really matter. Thanks for your reply.Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

Yep, they still do that - just had whoops br sprouts (7p) for tea with steak & kidney. Will have mash with whoops chives (2p) tomorrow with HM meat loaf - yum.Fully paid up member of S.A.B.L.E.

Morrisons near where I used to live used to call the reduced section "bent bargains" - not any more of course. What with that an whoopsies, clearly reduced items have a gay theme! (and I'm right at home there)
:D:D:D:D
It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.
Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.0 -
