If it was a physical rather than logical problem, you'd get more than a completely blank screen. If the bios screen doesn't come on, it's not the hard disk. Flash drives are easily corrupted if you pull them out while being accessed, and similarly hard disks if you don't shutdown cleanly.

Sorry but I find your comments rather offensive. But, to answer them. The laptop wasrunning Windows Vista therefore we believed the problems were down to the OS not the drive. So, thank you very much for calling me and my family morons. I shall be reporting you to the moderators.

Yeah, I really shouldn't have risen but I was somewhat stressed at the time. These people just make me so angry. I thought all the spoilers like that had long gone when I stopped using the old fashioned bulletin boards.... Sadly they still remain to try to spoil it for everybody else.

I sent off a letter to the company as instructed by Consumer Direct. Now I've got to wait 14 days, again their suggested timespan, for a response. I've simply and politely pointed out he relevant legal 'acts' and asked for a like for like replacement or repair. The silly thing is that replacement will only cost the firm about £30 or £40 as it's only an 80gb SATA 2.5 hard drive. Small fry compared to the latest drives.

Until then I'm in limbo. Annoyingly my daughter needs her laptop to do college work on. Thankfully I had already backed up all of her important work before it really went bad.

Actually, I must check to see what the date was they received the letter.

As soon as I hear something I'll post it up here.

    Thank you.
