Moving house
Hi All,
Moving house hopefully in a month time. I am currently on a Capped tariff from when Martin said 'CAP CAP CAP' from July 2008.
What happens when moving? Do you have do go with the supplier that the current vendor is using then switch using the comparison sites or can I say to my energy company that I'm moving and use them on my capped rate from the summer?

Check the t&c of your tariff. Most suppliers put these on their websites if you can't find your copy. Look for something like 'Discontinued Products'.0

Moving house is a great time to get out of capped/fixed tariffs with out incurring penalty charges.
And yes you will initially have to take over the exisiting supplies at the new property so make sure you take a meter reading when you move in and register yourself.0 -
Yes, this is true - you have to take on existing supply so you end your caped deal. I meant you should check your t&c to see if you'll be charged a penalty for ending the deal early. Some waive this if you move house.0

I was hoping to keep the capped tariff as it probably still cheaper than the latest price cut according to Martin's article. But by the sound of it I have to go to the new vendor supplier then switch. Is this the case?0

If you phone them they will most likely have a homemovers department that will stop your accounts at your old property and set you up at your new address (and should be able to continue on the same tariff and payments etc)0 -
Check this (t&c of your product). Scottish Power, for example, waive the cancellation charge if you move house but you cannot take your tariff with you, you have to take a current product.0
