Does comparison site incorporate coming price rises?
Hi,
My current electricity supplier, Zest has gone into administration. According to the letter I received, I can either switch to a new supplier myself or a replacement will be found for me.
If I were to use the price comparison now using the usual sites such as uswitch, etc will it incorporate all the anticipated price rises scheduled to happen in March? If not, is there somewhere that will give me an indication of the amount of increase that I will need to factor in using the current comparison sites.
Thanks.

The comparison sites unfortunately give the current prices.
This site:

shows the announced rises. e.g. SP and London Energy that are effective next month.0 -
Thanks for the info, Cardew.
Just saw the thread about Zest4 customers being transferred to British Gas. I have yet to hear from BG officially.
Using Energyhelpline, BG comes up cheapest for me. However, as it probably doesn't account for the forthcoming 22% increase in March, I am tempted to switch to nPower which is the next best for me. According to the link you supplied, npower's new prices were received on 17th February 2006. How much was the increase, do you know?
Thanks.0 -
A BBC article said 14% Elect and 15% gas. However I just cannot be bothered with all the hassle of keeping up with the ever leapfrogging tariffs.
I took a gamble on the BG fixed until April 30 2010 tariff. Even if it doesn't turn out to have been a good gamble it is worth it for the sheer peace of mind. Mind you it is looking a better bet every day.0 -

Same here. I changed once, bloody nightmare. Will stick with BG, I have the price fix until 2010. Even if its a little more worth it.

As a silver surfer oap, I've tried to keep in touch with what utility is best value, especially over the last five years. I honestly believe that we are all going to get caught for price rises whatever supplier you go for! At the latest research, we MAY be able to save about £30 a year for gas if we switch from British Gas (obviously before today's hike of 22%), but having read some of the nightmare problems reported here and elsewhere, is it worth it? Who will be the next supplier to put up charges by the same percentage and what terms and conditions will they then apply? Believe me, we're not averse to change, but I think Martin should not only update the website about the implications of these totally unacceptable price increases, but he should be lobbying the Government about EU practices. PLEASE MARTIN. DO IT NOW!
Sorry about the length of this email but we're absolutely livid - and quite worried that we're subject to yet another increase in utilities and council taxes, etc, while the pension increase is just a fraction of price hikes! And I'm sure there are many other millions of 'normal' people like us, of all ages who will be affected.
Cheers and thanks. Have a great weekend!0
