Landords, what can they take from my deposit?

I moved out of a property 3 weeks ago and i'm still waiting for the agent to get back to me with what deductions they are going to take from my deposit. (personaly they are acting like money grabbers and dont deserve a penny of it) still...
I had to take out contents insurance on the property when I moved in however I did not renew the insurance on the last month of residency and now they are saying they will take the last months worth of insurence from the deposit - can they do this even though I dont live there anymore??
Also I recieved the paperwork on where the deposit was being held however i have since lost the paperwork - have I got the right to ask for a copy from the agent again or do I go to the company where the deposit is being held?
Information and advice would be appreciated.
:-)
