Welltech CD/MP3.Help please

Hi there,
Yesterday bought a Welltech CD player with integral MP3 from Lidl.(Needed a cheap one for holidays and it was certainly cheap!)I tried it out this morning and can't get it to work either with batteries or mains.I don't think it's me being incompetant,however there is no instruction leaflet in the box,and I can't get over the feeling that I'm missing something obvious.
Has anyone had one of these?It's a bit of a trek to Lidl from here and I'd rather not have to go again so soon.
