2003 Ford Focus - Air Bag Light

Started up my Focus this morning, and the air bag/seatbelt pretensioner light started flashing. It then stays on constantly.

When i start up the focus, the air bag light flashes 4 times (does this a few times) and then stays on constantly.

I (reluctantly) went to my local ford [strike]st[/strike]dealer this morning, only to be told that they have no slots available today. They are going to look at it tomorrow.

Anyone know what this fault is/whats causing it/costs to sort?

(I have a 2003 Ford Focus TDCi)

Cheers.

The 4 flashes usually means there is a fault with the pre tensioners but you will need to get the dealer to run diagnostics and locate the specific error code.

    Is this a big/expensive job?

The guy at the service desk said something about a belt? Is this the same thing?

Problems like this are often nothing more than a bad wiring connection under one or both of the front seats. Have a look under the seats yourself and separate and re-connect the connector going to the sensor in the base of the seats. These connectors are to allow the seat to be removed from the car but as this is not usually necessary very often, soldering the wires together can be a good solution to this problem. You may not need to go to your main stealer tomorrow!

    Now sorted.

It was the crash sensor (sits near the front grille I believe)

Cost me £270 to have it sorted. Thats what happens when you go to a main [strike]st[/strike]dealer I here you all shouting! Would have went to my local independent garage but that wont be until next week and I'll have to book time off work. Couldnt risk driving about with a dodgy air bag.

    Cheers all.
