Car insurance quandry

Hi,
When my car insurance renewal came in it said that I had two years no claims bonus instead of one. When I renewed with another company , I renewed on the basis that I only had one year no claims. This was fair enough but after they asked to see my no claims proof, they are now assuming that I have two years no claims and so are going to give me a refund of £18. My dilema is, should I come clean and tell them the truth in case they find out later or is this not likely to happen (the new insurance
company is Norwich Union) ?

Thanks

Your proof of NCB is usually the end of the matter.

But for the sake of £18, honesty is the best policy.

If you want a conciuse you can tell NU, I suspect the person you speak to will say the proof says 2 years and its too much bother to change it so they will leave it as it is. If they do take a note of the persons name and the time of the call and bobs your uncle and fannys your aunt.

Are you sure you are not actually entitled to two years no claims bonus as you might have made a mistake?

I know what I would do if it was me.

Your renewal said 2 years? Some companies run an introductory incentive where you go from zero to two years NCD at renewal. Who was the original company?

Yes I think this could be some sort of bonus.
Don't just just assume that your NCD should equal the number of claim free years.
I know that's logical but that's not always how it works.

I would question it with your old inurer first before saying anything to the new one.

All good advice so far but just wanted to add our story to show this does happen sometimes.

We went from 1 to 2 cars a few years ago and because we insured both cars with the same co (it was renewal time for the old car) they mirrored hubbys full NCB as an incentive/goodwill gesture.
When renewal time came around the following year the renewal letters stated both cars had full NCB. I called the ins co to clarify this and they said that if that's what the renewal letter said then that's what we had!

I was still wary and when I called a few co's for quotes I explained the situation and they agreed with our co, if that's what the renewal letters said, that's what we have.

Thanks for all the replies. I phoned my old insurance company this morning and they advised that it was indeed a special offer for new customers so I have now two years NCB instead of one and so have saved myself 20 quid in the process.:j

Dacouch must get a kickback to make such comments??? (Which some would say amount to advertising)

Anyway, glad they confirmed it for you, and you will save a lot more than £20 over the next few years premiums through this - and will always be one year ahead of the NCB game until you reach the maximum.

I was being Sarcastic about the combination, from previous experience of them both seperately
