**Mosquito Bites - Allergic Reaction**

Options
here's a handy tip for anyone who suffers an allergic reaction to mosquito bites like me

if you get Brewers Yeast Tablets (from Holland & Barrett or health food shop) and take them for a couple of weeks before you go on holiday (i think its 2 three times a day or something) then keep on taking them when you are on holiday the mozzies don't bite you!

honestly! for years I have looked for a cure but THIS IS IT:j

IF I get bitten I swell up really badly so I am chuffed to bits that this doesn't happen anymore with the brewers yeast

and no, before any smart alecs come along, I don't smell like a pint of beer:rotfl:

Hydrocortisone cream will help on the bites. You don't want to go nuts with it though.

Antibiotics will not work for an allergic reaction. They would have been prescribed if the bites had become infected.

Aidenr, there are several non drowsy antihistamines available over the counter. The pharmacist will be able to advise you of the most suitable for you.

supers mentions an injection - this is likely to be a cortisone injection, which is used for severe allergic reactions.
    Gone ... or have I?

    thanks guys !

bites have settled down, but being so jetlagged did not make it to Boots!

will go later and see what I can get non drowsy - thanks dmg24

like said in my post, I would normally get piriton, but due to being a flight attendant we are not allowed them. Grrrrr as they normally work a treat for me !

I've got a couple of cures to deal with the itching
    1) Get the chemist to mix up a solution of calamine cream (NOT lotion) with 1% menthol. It cools down the bites and eases the itching. GP told me this years ago. Only trouble is it's fresh so doesn't have a long shelf life.

    2) Not as good but worth taking on holiday - one of those clicking gizmos that work by making static electricity. Hurts like blazes though if you miss the itchy bit and hit normal skin!! :D
