If I remember correctly they begin to oxidise (the data layer) when opened after two days the data is unusable.0 -

I think once it hits the atmosphere it is too late, the chemical reaction as started.

My high school chemistry tells me the oxygen would need to be present consistently.
If its something organic or the oxygen or active substance is in the disk coating itself then maybe putting it in the freezer would help.
I'd buy one just for the challenge of making it last as long as possible :laugh:0
