Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Our local Blockbuster closed before Christmas, despite some really good offers in Oct/Nov.

i use blockbuster a lot to rent DVDs but we only ever use our nectar points to pay for them ... 500 points for a rental (which i feel is one of the best value ways to spend nectar points) and i've even managed to get box sets out on that! maybe that is why they're in trouble, no-one paying with cash!

It seems the high street as we know it is indeed but a twitching relic.

Do others agree with me that in the end only a few high street models will survive such as furniture?

We even buy kids shoes and adult trainers online now plus I got my wifes 'me me' chain online.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Mitchaa, you sure watch a lot of films! :)

ETA: I've just remembered a funny story. A family member was coming to stay with us once and for various reasons I couldn't meet them at the station/airport so gave them directions to our Milanese place...and she called when close for more detailed help.

lir : Can you see Blockbuster? great you are close! cross the road and then you'll see the 'american sex shop' and we're the private road behind that.'
cousin; 'Oh thank god, for a ghastly moment i thought you were going to say you lived behind the Blockbuster'

Internet shopping is not good for exchange and returns, nor is it good for trying things on to see if they fit.

I cant buy jeans off the internet as chances are they will not fit right, be skin tight, too baggy, waist too small/big etc etc, so i have no choice but to go to the high street to buy them, same goes for jumpers, T-shirts etc, some tops say they are large in size but yet wouldn't fit over a 4ft anorexic midget.

For that reason, the highstreet chains are there to stay.

They better not, theres no other video store near me. And I use Lovefilm as well, convenient as it is its never going to replace a trip to the video store on a friday to choose a movie you want to see then and there, and a pack of Haagan Dasz.

Was parked outside ours recently one night and thought they have never looked busy since they opened. If they go Lidls are next door and could knock through I suppose. I think I rented 1 film from them in all the years, can't remember what it was though.
I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

We haven't rented a film in years. Used to rent two a night at one point. I think freeview, Sky, Virgin will see off film rentals. Not because they are cheap to watch films with (they are not), but because there are just so many more channels now, with good, though older, films on most nights. That and the fact that many new films come out on a £10 dvd deal at the supermarkets makes renting less attractive.

    hi

must admit i rarely visit my local BlockBuster.

on a slightly differant note about DVDs

when i was on a returning connecting flight from New York,
in the airport i found a store selling dvds that where $4.99 but they could
be used only for 2 days ! ( these where recent movies )

i did a search on google , and the below is the closest thing i could find to them.

my question is , how on earth do they work ! ?

    cheers
