Long term sickness? Info needed

I was really hoping someone could help.
Bit of a long story but my mother hurt her back/hip while working in an NHS hospital, she has been off now for around 5-6 months. She finds it hard to do anything and is in constant pain. She has been receiving treatment from the hospital where she works but nothing has helped.
Her wages have since been cut, meaning she is finding it hard to keep up with mortgage repayments and general bills. This, along with meetings with managment within the hospital, is pushing her to go back to work when to be honest she is not at all fit. She has tried talking to her mortgage company to take a payment holiday or something along those lines but to no avail. They are on the phone nearly every week asking for payment and I can see how depressed she is over it.
I was after information as to what benefits she could claim to top up her pay until she is ready to go back to work.
She has spoken to her Union about making a claim to help pay the morgage while she's off but they can't help.
Any information would be greatly appreciated!!! Either about benefits or if it is worth pursuing a compensation claim?
Thanks in advance!

Hi and welcome to MSE,was the injury a one off or as a result of the work she was doing over a period of time?If it was a one off e.g she slipped on something that shouldnt have been there it might be worth trying for compensation using a no win no fee solicitor(but that can take time, perhaps a year maybe 2),if it was a result of lifting etc as part of her job the excuse will be that they train staff how to do this(i know it still doesnt stop it happening).
As for benefits difficult to advise without knowing more,e.g.does she have a partner who works, children still at home, whats her income now.0 -
Thank you!
The injury happened by stopping someone falling out of a bed, she was helping with a rather large patient with a colleague when he fell, she reached to catch him and strained her back. Unsure if it heps but the 'handover' paperwork with the patient said 4+ staff to help with maneuvering but because of staff restrictions there were only 2. Think that may go against her because it was in writing there should have been more people? Also the bed was not fitted with a roll bar on the side as the bed was not of standard size. The doctors seem to think she may have nerve damage but nothing conclusive yet.
She and my dad both work full time, she earns around £13500 and my dad around £16000. My brother lives at home but does not work. They don't get any benefits at the moment as my brother is over 16.
Hope this helps a little?

If your dad is earning 16k and your mum still getting some pay its highly unlikely they would be able to get benefits, and from what you say looks like they have covered themselves re:compo, can your brother not find some work to help out(not easy atm I know),other than that not much i can suggest im afraid, you might get your mum to have a look at the debtfreewannabe board for advice on saving money.0 -
Thanks very much!!
My brother is a joiner so when he does work, he gets well paid. Obviously at the moment he is finding it hard to get work which doesn't help.
Thanks for all the advise and will have a look at the board for more tips!
Seems mad when people who work their whole lives can't get help when they need it lol! Nevermind, more people than my parents in the same situation I suppose!
Thanks again!
