Booked my flights to NZ, now need to think about travel insurance.
Not going until the end of the year, so can I wait or am i better to get it now?
Also will a single trip policy cover me if we need to cancel?
We will be away for 45 days, what if the return trip is delayed by airline-will we still be covered if it goes into 46 days?

Buy it now to get cancellation protection, perhaps pick a policy for a few extra days as a bit of a buffer to be sure of cover. An annual policy might not be that much more.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

richardw is absolutely correct, get it now.
In the event of a claim one of the questions they ask is WHEN did you buy your trip as compared to the policy.
These companies look for any excuse not to pay up.0 -
BUY IT NOW!!!!! I had a hol booked for xmas 05, broke my ankle in nov so had to cancel - it all went through really quickly ( i think i had the cash back within 2 weeks of cancelling), because I booked the ins with the hol. I was really lucky cos we v often do diy hols (ie not packages), and wen we do that i always tend to leave my travel ins till the last minute - never again!! Now that i have had the experience of having to cancel i will always buy ins when i buy the hol!
Oh and yes, single trip policy will cover u for cancellation

Nope.
That's like getting car insurance just before you have a crash. You don't know when the crash is going to happen.
Get insurance when the risk is there. You have booked your flights, there is now a risk that you may need to cancel. Take insurance out now to cover this risk, it isn't expensive, so the cover is worth getting.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0
