Hello everyone,
I am new to money saving and I am having to start very small. Not all of us can afford to squirrel away £2 coins. However I have discovered that you can still sart off your savings by buying a tube of smarties.
First of all you buy the smaties and eat them, you may as well have some fun. Then you collect all the 20p coins that come your way. A smarty tube holds £11.00 in cash, and has helped me out many a time. I am aspiring to join the £2 coin challenge though!
good luck and keep the faith, the best place to start is here, the best time to start is now!

Fantastic idea Blacksheep - I am slowly getting £2 coins, but think I will do this alongside the £2 club - think you have started another possible trend - gives a new meaning to buying things with smarties! Think of the weight we will all be putting on too! This could then save in the winter heating bills!
    Gimme back my bank charges!!!!!
  • I thought that the smarties tubes were being phased out?

What a great idea! Especially the eating the smarties part – I LOVE smarties... :D
If I don't respond to your posts, it's probably because you're on my 'Ignore' list.

Great idea and I think anyone can adapt this to what suits their means.

I have a demi john that I collect my loose change in and periodically bank it into my savings account. Its amazing how all those little bits add up.

Good luck with however you choose to save. :heartpuls

I haven't had smarties in years but the round tubes have been phased out, not sure what the nex box is like!

Isnt it a hexagonal type tube now? Might still work.

I keep mine in a plastic milk carton, since I usually get at least £1-2 worth a day I'd become a smartie addict  (and there's no way I'm counting up till it's full)
    :j The £2 CSC = £48 in carton

  • Hi there
Just to add my two peneth worth
Have you tried collecting pound coins in steradent (Denture cleaning tablet tubes) If you dont use them maybe you know of someone that does.
Each tube holds 22 pound coins when full (if my memory serves me correct)
The thing about these tubes is that if you carry one in your handbag and pop all your pound coins in as you get them without being to obvious you soon fill the tubes up. Also you dont appear to have to much money left in your purse so you tend to cut down any overspending temptations. Because you dont want to go the checkout and pull out a tube of false teeth cleaning tablets do you. :grinheart LOL
