We also deposited the proceeds of a house sale, about £500,000, with ING while we rented for 6 months. We could have received a tiny % more elsewhere but ING are trustworthy, uncomplicated and quick.0

Go for the big banks and building societies.
To be safe :
Avoid offshore banking.
Avoid also overseas subsidiaries of UK banks.
Remember there is a limit to the amount you can claim in case a Bank - Deposit taker fails :
