Ikea - stock information.

Hi,

Two weeks ago I visited Ikea (20 miles away) after checking online for stock availability. I actually wanted a pack of two rather large shelves.

Stock was showing at 42, off I go to buy them but no shelves. Apparently they were 'lost' and Ikea would launch an investigation. 3 days later, stock still showing so I phoned the store, they still hadn't been found. Why on earth wasn't the online figure adjusted??? How someone could lose 42 sets of large shelves is beyond me.

I am now needing to get a wardrobe from them, 13 showing online but I phoned to check. I was then informed that there weren't actually any one the shelves at all. What if I'd just gone again:confused: , I need to arrange to borrow a car big enough for the item so it will need arranging.

Why bother with this system, it clearly doesn't work. I wonder how many other people have had completely wasted journeys after relying on it.

Had the same thing myself a while back. I told the Ikea person in the warehouse that the internet said they are in stock and was told that the internet is always wrong. The only way to get the true stock figure is to go to Ikea and get one of the staff to look it up on their computer.

Even getting the staff to check isn't accurate though, the staff agreed that the 42 sets of shelves were shown as being in stock on their system, they'd just mislaid them:confused: I can't understand why, if they knew this that they didn't update the website or their stystem.

Every store updates there stock information like every fortnight (Well next anyway) The only way to confirm is ring the store. And they would tell you whats on there system.

Never ever believe what the Ikea website tells you, much less anyone on the phone if you ever manage to get through to a dept. I used to work for them, evenings, and would take it upon myself to phone customers from home during the day if a particular thing they wanted came into stock, the problem is that there is only a certain amount of room on the shop floor for stock, and the remaining items are "in the air" (which means that they are stored on pallets on the shelving above the self serve warehouse area). The staff were not allowed to use forklifts to retrieve said stock when the store was open to the public, I always thoiught that to be a rather lame excuse because shops like B&Q, or Wickes operate them during trading hours. I left in the end as I couldn't get my head round the idea of letting the customer do everything for themselves, I like being helpful and serving people properly!!
