Door lock configuration question

I recently bought a new front door. I had the lock configured so that the door locks when it is closed. There is no need to use the key, although using the key to lock the handle significantly improves security.
Now I would like to change the setup so that, if just pulled closed, the door can be opened (without a key), just by pushing the handle down.
How easy is it to get in and make this change?
Thanks

  • it depends on wether the handle is a split spindle handle (just need to change the spindle) or wether its a pad handle on the outside

  • Just your basic lever on both sides. Pulling the handle up on the outside activates the multi-point locks, but that's pretty pointless, as pushing the handle down retracts them again.
So are you saying I can just get a basic spindle and replace the split spindle with a standard spindle?
    Thanks
    :)
