Moving SKY+ connection

Hi,
I have just moved home and would like to move my SKY+ connection. I am taking my sky+ box with me but my new property does not have a dish. I am in contract till June this year, so cant cancel.

SKY is charging me £60 to move the connection. I am having a number of other expenses related to this move and would like to cut costs where ever I can. I have read articles in this site which suggests that there are deals to be had from SKY but those articles are quite old. The ideal is to pay no re-connection charge but if I could somehow reduce the connection fee that would be great.

Was wondering if anyone here has been in a similar position and has an experience to share.
Thanks.

If you are still in the contract period I doubt Sky will offer you a deal. Their moving home charge used to be £40 (2006 price) it may well have increased. I doubt you can get away from that. To get a private ariel firm to supply and fit a dish will cost more than that.

What are they going to charge you cancel it? If money is tight then maybe going to freeveiw is worth considering?

To be honest £60 doesn't sound unreasonable.

£60 for sky to move your connection ? does that include the dish and reinstalling everything ? if it does , your not going to get cheaper anywhere else
They arent likely to offer you a deal as they have you by the balls for another 3 months

I agree with the above. The fact that you're in a contract still will mean they won't offer you anything. However you could try making it sound good to them by offering to extend your contract for a further 12 months if they'll provide the installation free. Basically offering to cancel the contract you have now and start again. Sky will like this as it means they've secured your money for another year.

It's worth a try at least.
  • Hi,
Yes it includes the new dish and fitting.
I appreciate £60 is reasonable but it is just my situation forcing me to reduce costs where I can.
Can't cancel as that would mean I have to pay till June and there is a penalty clause on the original install as that was on a discounted rate. Else I happily would.
Thank you all for all your suggestions.

You could buy a dish, LNB, cable and F-connectors all from that well know auction site, but the savings would be fairly small... then you'd have the trouble of aligning the dish correctly, so may need to get a signal meter aswell. Sky would also offer some kind of guarantee on the installation I would imagine - something you won't have by doing it yourself.

I think you should bite the bullet and get Sky to sort it for you. £60 isn't exactly a rip-off (which is more than can be said for Sky's subscription charges!).
