Insurance against faulty workmanship carried out before we moved it

Hi
I have found out that the roof doesn't have any lead flashings and i've been told this is classed as faulty workmanship because they've used cement instead (it seems lead was very expensive when the repair work was carried out)
The roof is over 5 yrs old and the work was carried out before we moved in, therefore we don't know who the builder was.
I wondered if i have any claim to insurance against such a problem given we didn't know about it when we moved in.
(we now need to sort it out as it's causing damp)
our structural surveyor said the lead flashings are underneath the cement but now i think how could he tell as he couldn't see it!!
should i confront his report?
thanks

Unless you have removed the cement or its come off, how do you know there isn't any lead? Can it be seen from the inside or are has someone else inspected it?
If there definitely isn't any lead and you have it in writing that there was supposed to be then I'd definitely get in touch with the surveyors.0 -
I can't confirm there isn't any lead. I'm guessing there isn't any as we are getting damp inside the property.
without removing the cement any suggestions to see if there is any lead there?0 -
I doubt whether you could claim on any insurance. Even if you did not know about the problem before you bought. It was still a pre-existing problem and as such it is unlikely that any insurance company would pay up. Unless someone from the insurance world would like to tell us different.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
cant see any way of claiming off any buildings insurance.
you may have a claim against the surveyor if they stated the roof lead flashing was in good condition and there is no lead.
but 5 years on isnt very good.Get some gorm.0
