Hi
I bought a car a few months ago and got all the serveice history etc, I bought it from a garage. i've had a couple of probs with it and looking through the bumph, i found a sheet of paper tucked away with an HPI report on it. It says that on a different plate it was a catagory B insurance write off, how do i know this wasn't on a number plate they owned and not on this car or was this one, which I think unlikely but want to be sure. Its got a note in black marker saying its not this car, but as I've spent so much on it I can't afford another £40 to get an HPI check, is there anyway of getting it for free? I've emailed HPI but I don't hold out much hope as they make money from selling the reports.

If you're still planning to sell the car then I wouldn't worry unless a potential buyer does a check and it comes up with something. If you bought it from a garage you have some degree of comeback anyway.
Hope it works out OK for you.Can I help?0 -
It wasn't so much the selling on as whether I could do something about being sold it. Thanks!0

Are you sure the HPI report is actually for the same car - & not just some paperwork mix up?? It should be clear, that a registration change has taken place, on the form.
Did the garage tell you of a plate change, or did you buy it with a 'personalised' reg, already on it?
Did they advertise it as damage repaired, does your purchase invoice state it has, were you told, or have it in writng, that it was NOT a repaired vehicle?
Can you tell us the model/spec miles & price paid & what repairs you've since had to carry out. If you bought it 'cheaply', the garage could imply that you should have been aware, of it's history, somehow. If you paid full 'retel' value, then you'll have a better chance of redress.

I think there has been a plate change on it, so I think that may be where the vcar was - maybe on the other plate on a different car, i paid retail value, it wasn't cheaper.
Thre was no personal reg on it and it wasn't sold as damaged/repaired.
HPI have said i will have to pay for another check.0 -
The HPI report will say: REG: MSE01, Rover 25 1.416v REgistered 01/01/03. It has to say the make/typr and registration date of vehicle.
Simply put if you have bought this and the dealer says that it was HPI clear and it wasnt, providing you have documentation to say that they did i.e their advert? then you have mucho comeback!
Let me know make/model/reg etc if you want and I will do a full HPI for you, you can buy me a beer!'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.
