New to car insurance

Hi

i passed my test yesterday with 6 minors!!! YAYY:D:D
In febuary i purchased a very nice 1.6 vw golf and have been looking at insurance since i started looking back in september last year. I found diamond let me select Mr bradley jones and it came to £1100 so did this but got the confirmation through to find out even though i selected mr it assumed i was MS bradley jones?!?!

So now the cheapest i have found over the internet is directline, me on my own policy without parents on it is cheapest at £1800 and obviously am wondering if i could find or get it cheaper?:

Ive talked to my dad and he seems to think i wont get it any cheaper at all, but i know people on here know best. So im here to ask how i can get it cheaper, ringing up asking for another company to beat it, etc anything that has worked for you? taking in mind im only 17...

Thanks
Kind Regards

Brad

    Congratulations on passing.

Unfortunately it is going to be expensive for your first car and at age 17.

When do you turn 18, as this could be worth taking in account

Have you tried running it though on comparison sites? Sometimes adding your parents as additional drivers can reduce the premium at your age

    thanks

yeah i understand that but i think im one the people paying the most in my year at college although i have the most powerful car though. i turn 18 in july so do you think its worth it cancelling my insurance and getting a new insurance with my new age of 18 on the basis it WILL be cheaper?
never thought of it like that before...

and comparison sites at my age seem to be the worst all around 2500, 3000+ and directline isnt on them either. Ive gone through the whole process on money saving expert and thats the cheapest i got.
Adding my mum to my direct line policy is more exspensive even with her as the policy holder.

    thanks for the reply

The car is a fairly high group car so not ideal for a new driver price wise.

It might be worth canceling and restarting but would depend what the price is when you are 18 and what whoever you insure with charge to cancel the policy. Bear in mind that if you cancel in july you will not earn any no claims bonus for that period.

Your friends at school probably have cheaper cars to insurer and / or have insured them in their parents names which can cause big problems if they have not been totally upfront with the Insurer

yeah i understand that and i can afford it where it is but any money off for petrol is big bonuses!!
hmm yes i might be able to come up wit ha deal that directline change it to the lower price of age 18 and ask if they can carry the rest of my year, direct line might understand worth a try!
most of my friends yes but one has a clio 1.4 16v and he pays 1800 same as i would for 1.6 golf

    thanks for your help
