Waterstones & Faulty Ebook Reader

Hi all

I bought a Sony E-Reader from Waterstones just before Xmas. It has now developed a fault with the screen. Took it back to Waterstones and they are saying that I need to return it to Sony as they only cover it for faults for the 1st seven days after purchase. Is this correct?

    The retailer is responsible, however it may be quicker going direct to Sony as Waterstones will probably just sent it to Sony anyway, Sony may offer a collect and return service, if they dont insist Waterstones send it for repair.

    Your contract is with the retailer, not the manufacturers. Furthermore, if you follow the above advice, you could end up curtailing your own statutory rights, as Waterstones could argue in the case of a future fault that you didn't go through them! Yes, really.

    You need to go back to them, say nicely, but firmly that actually, it is their responsability, and that they have the choice of repair, replace or refund as per SOGA 1979.

    Furthermore, you want to tell then that you will be reporting their attempt to reduce your statutory rights under SOGA 79 to TS, as they have NO RIGHTS to feed you the "7 day policy" BS.

    Don't let them fob you off, they are well out of order here. :mad:
