i am with scottish/british gas fixed price 2012 tarriff from oct 08
paying £82 per month per month for gas and £84 per month for electricity
my gas charge seems quite high as i only have gas central heating which is on 4 hours in the morning and 4 hours at night in the winter. a year ago i was paying £80 in total for the same services should i ask british gas to check my meter or should i go back on to my previous tarriff which i think was click 6 bearing in mind that i will have to pay a cancellation charge of approx £75 to do so

You would have probably paid a premium to go onto the fixed rate tariff.

Furthermore, prices have increased considerably in the last year. BG put their gas price up by over 50% alone in 2008.

Use the comparison sites listed above in the resource bar to decide if you can get a better offer now at the expense of losing your fixed price protection. Make sure you base the anaylsis on actual consumption in kWh, not cost. You'll also need to manually factor in the exit fee costs you'll incur.
