Goals 5 a side cancellation fee

I regularly book a pitch with goals every Sunday, last week I had to cancel my booking. They then informed me that I have to pay a cancellation fee, of £55, as I did not give them 48 hours notice. But wouldn't they have to inform me of this cancellation fee when I booked, or at least when I registered to be a member 2 years ago? Can they do this or are they just trying it on?

Thanks,
James.

It seems fair enough. After all they are quite likely to lose money by your cancellation as they would likely not be able to get another booking within 48 hours.

It is up to you to read the terms and conditions.

You may be able to get your money back if they re rent out the pitch. How much was the original booking?
  • You must have been pre-warned about this when you joined. My boyf plays five-a-side at goals regularly and has always been aware of the charges if you cancel last minute so always checks they have a full team 48hrs before.

As Mark Hewitt says above it's up to you to check the t&c's.

We pay £32.50 with student discount, but they were asking for £55 for the cancellation fee. Anybody know how they go about getting the £55?

It is no doubt in their terms and conditions.

There is a law that if say you cancel a hotel and they relet the room, then the law looks at it that they have mitigated their losses. So if they rented for the same as you would have paid they cannot charge you but if they rented for a lower amount you pay the difference.

I assume the same law will apply here as its basic contract law eg you are only entitled to what you have pysically lost a bit like how they are arguing the bank charges.

Have a read of this thread which should help, it may be worth sending a Personal Message to one of the posters on that thread who know about this law and ask for their opinion on your matter. (To send a PM left click on the posters name and it will give you the option to pm)
