The lady on the show with the champagne should pop to Lidl. Their champers range from £7.99 - £13.99 and are not bad at all. We used to celebrate with Bollinger but now we're not so silly!!!£4000 challenge

I just done a shop with mum. Im broke at the moment and they are off on holiday. They know of my lack of cash so have decided to fill the cupboard sup for me.
We went to ASDA and found the following bargains.
Noodles . 8p a pack. I love noodles , so for 16p a day , can have these and add some chopped ham or fish to it and some veggies.
I reckon a meal for less then a quid there0 -

Totalled together about £26.85. I buy all loo rolls, wash powder, DW tablets, nescafe etc from Makros only when on offer so about £2 a week there.
We eat very well and always have a good stock cupboard. I basically do a big shop 4 weekly then top up with fruit and veg, milk etc weekly. The above is just for a guide and can get cheaper if I buy monthly.
ATM about £25-£30 a week on everything. We have our 5 fruits/veg daily and am always freezing surplus portions. According to the above £12 a week per person is achievable. I know most people will prefer spending more on their meat, organic veg and eggs but I dont mind at all. I buy free range where possible (normally vastly reduced LOL-so not much!) I could cut down on the above and some weeks Ive only spent £10 as I have the bulk of the food already.

Thank you all for this thread! I've been steadily cutting back my food shopping bill over the last few months (since finding MSE) but I know there is still some work to do! Its just me to feed and non food stuff (like toilet paper, cleaning things, laundry powder etc) are bought separately and split between all housemates so my totals are just for food. I spend about £15 a week but I know it could be less, if I invested some time in preparing, making in bulk etc. I do plan meals but not as much as I should maybe! Also I do get tempted quite easily, although the satisfaction of only buying exactly what is on my list helps to stop that!
So many thanks for this thread which has inspired me to make another push on my shopping spends and try to get under that £12 a week!Don't stress, relax, let life roll off your backs. This is my first post, but I have been reading all the O/S tips for a couple of weeks now. Thanks to you all for the great tips and advice.
I am so excited that I have a reason for posting! The nutritionist was Linda Johnstone and I think this maybe her website. https://www.ljnutrition.co.uk
I hope this is the right website and the link works!! Please let me know what you think?
There are a few recipes on here. I wonder if any of you could put some prices on the ingredients to see if these are O/S.
Best Wishes

mummysaver wrote:Rightyho! I'm feeling very inspired now! Used to spend £80 to feed four of us for a month, and this amount included cleaning stuff and toiletries, now that we earn more the food bill has gone up - also have two more children and various animals!
Slow cooker arrived this morning and I'm planning on filling the freezer with cheaper cuts of meat, ready to slow cook!
Have also made a meal list for the next fortnight, and will be getting the ingredients today! DD1 saw the list and says that we should all take it in turns cooking a meal each night :happyhear So we'll give it a go, though I'm not too sure what the 4yo will produce - baked potatoes or soup I think, she enjoys chopping things up!
Right will finish ingredient list now and be off to supermarket, may try dividing list into five, so children can each have one and me too, should make it quicker!
ok, i'm with you here. can you give me a copy of your meal planner for next couple weeks. i'm useless at thinking for myself of what to eat in advance.Pabby-Ellis

Even though I'm not a meal-planner,Penny Pincher's plan and shopping list has really inspired me,thanks PP :T Costing things out takes a lot of work.
I'm going to sit down and make a plan based on what I've already got in my cupboards and freezer.I had an expensive week for food this week so I'm aiming to spend as little as poss next week. :j0
