Scottish Power (number for complaints)

Hi, I set up a direct debit last month to pay my gas bill. I asked for the end of the month, she explained the end of the month would be end of feb so I changed it to the 15th (it was the 15th that day). She confirmed it would be the 15th March. They tried to take the money on 27th of feb and I have been charged £35 by the bank.

The bank said they can't do anything, ring scottish power.
Does anyone have a direct number to Scottish Power complaints or something, as I dont want to get passed back and forth.
Also do they record there calls as it was the girl who suggested the 15th as it gave me longer to find the money. Thanks for your help

You can call Scottish Power on 0845 7 292 292

However, if you were given 15th March as the date for collection and SP attempted to collect early on the 27th Feb, go back to your bank and insist that the bank reimburses you immediately under the terms of the direct debit guarantee.

Furthermore you can ask the bank to make a claim for consequential loss that arose from the attempt by SP to take the money other than in accordance with the schemes rules. i.e. the £35 bank charges you have incurred. However, the bank will not reimburse these consequential losses until they have got those costs back from SP themselves ... but it's their job to make the claim when you ask them to.

Edit: saynoto0870.com also gives the following alternative numbers for SP:

    0141 5686109
    0800 400200

Thanks Premier, well amazingly SP have agreed to refund me the charges themselves, which I have never heard of before, but aslong as I get them back I don't care who pays them!
Luckily there are no consequential losses, its such a relief to get it sorted. Thanks again x
