Thats very interesting as I live with one other person who works, when we moved in we registered for council tax and I filled in the student forms and recived the 25% discount. At this point my name vanished from the bills when I rang to ask why my name had been removed I was told that as I was exempt I was not liable for the bill in any way. They knew that I lived there but if the account was to fall into arrears I would not be chased.

Perhaps some councils are more lenient than the strict letter of the law? I have been a full time student for two and a half years - the first year I received a bill in my name with the exemption listed, the second year no bill at all, and the third year a bill in both mine and Mr. Fire Fox's name but with a 25% discount applied.

It took us four attempts in as many months to get a correct bill so we are in arrears, plus I recently successfully applied to be a band A ... God knows what kind of a mess the bill will be in next year. :p
