redundant or not?

My friends employer gave her a p45 last Tuesday after completing her 2 days work after 8 years of service, part time, equivalent of about 20 hours per week but might be less. The company has changed names but is owned and run by the same person. He has given her no notice and no letter of explanation although she got wind of this when he wrote to clients explaining who would be working at which office and her name was not included, but nothing official until last week.
Can she claim redundancy from the company, have read 1 week for each year of service she is 40yrs (swears blind she is younger though). Any help gratefully received. He could put it down to current economic climate, which is probably the real reason, estate agent.

Might be grounds for unfair dismissal.0 -
Sounds like she certainly has been unfairly dismissed, based on the information availalable - summary dismissal after 8 years service without any written explanation of why she is being dismissed."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Thanks so far, she is going to sign on today for JSA so they might prompt her to say something, other than that I will get her to ring CAB0
-
If that is what happened then I suspect it may be unfair dismissal as they haven't followed the process and consulted etc. I think she should phone CAB. Did she get paid in lieu of notice, or any redundancy pay? One to take a little further I think.0

As far as I am told, no notice, no pay in lieu of notice, I have just taken the info from CAB website to give her later. It seems to concur with what you say quite rightly thanks.0
