    Ah ok.

Telewest, you'll be on a Cable connection then (ie it won't run through your phone line like DSL).

Good too, it sounds like you have an Ethernet modem. Make sure it's not USB. The cable you connect with should look something like:

If you do have an ethernet modem, then all you need is a router. You don't need a router with inbuilt modem as mentioned in previous posts.

If you want the best, a MIMO router (you'll need a MIMO card too in your pc's) is what you'll want. The Belkin Pre-N is probably the best around:

It's a bit pricey though. The advantage with MIMO is that the signal generally won't weaken much the further away you are.

Alternatively, you could get something like the KCorp KLG-575. Have a look on eBay:

I've got one myself, great value for money, very reliable and it performs better than Netgear/Linksys equivalents (which are £50+). You could pick yourself up a bargain.

Or finally, the Linksys WRT54G is still a good router. You should be able to find one for around £40-50.

Personally, I tried the KCorp. The one on eBay may be refurbs, but for the sake of £15 you could get a bargain. The KCorp won a PC Pro labs test last July actually beating the Belkin Pre-N. Fantastic piece of kit.

  • Thanks wolfman,

I will keep my eye on ebay and try to get the router you gave me the link for.

Will let you know how i get on.
  • URGENT HELP REQUIRED.

Took wolfmans advice from above and bought a KCorp KLG-575 on e-bay, or so I thought. Had winning bid on 20 Feb at £17 (£22.99 with P&P) but it never arrived. Just got a message on e-bay saying the seller has no more in stock. SCUMBAG! 2 weeks nearly to tell me that and only because I chased them up.

Anyway, I intend trying to buy one on e-bay in hopefully in the next couple of hours. Thats were I hope some of you can help me. I have a Fujitsu Siemens Laptop, AMILO Pro V2040. I don't know what kind of router will be compatible but someone can inform me of any routers that bids finish on e-bay in the next 2 or 3 hours I could get.

    Fingers crossed.
