Thanks for the advice. What's frustrating is that the garage was a recommendation from the Which? Local website, but that's maybe for another discussion. I need to get the car taken care of and will check out some local alternatives. Like has been said, I could sort the basics like the filter etc.. but if it still fails ....

I'd try taking it for a good run, dare I say give it a bit of a thrashing before taking it to the place? Dont know if it works or not, but worth a try (when I say thrashing, i mean 2500-3000 revs b4 gear change, get up to 60 or 70 if m/way for a prolonged period).
Perhaps even a dose of Redex in the fuel or down the spark plug bores?0 -

If its only a little petrol engine,i doubt a good thrashing will help. It actually needs diagnosing and fixing !0
