Does a large house need a second combi boiler

Unfortunately I have a large house with 22 radiatiors & 3 baths pulled through one Combi Boiler. Is there any advantage in having a new second boiler fitted and splitting usage so that I could turn off supply in lesser used areas ? Is it cost-effective or is technically not required ? I have been quoted £3300 for the second boiler including all fittings and works. Any help would be appreciated.

But how many of you live in the property? How many baths likely to be run at the same time?0

yes the unused parts of the house can be zoned and controlled seperately, ideally a condensing system boiler is the prefered choice for large houses large enough for all rads and hot water with zone control, also research Air source heat pump boilers, then look at installation costs... running costs.. payback time..between electric versus gas / oilThere are three types of people in this world...those that can count ...and those that can't!

Hi,
It must be a quite large combi boiler for that demand!
I thought usually they were not recommended for houses with this many bathrooms? I guess it depends how many people are living in the house, and the usage of the baths and showers.
Having two boilers builds in some redundanccy but doubles the chances of something going wrong with one of them! Why pay for an extra boiler then turn it off? (If I understand correctly!)
Have you considered alternatives like a system boiler and a pressurised hot water storage tank running off the mains supply, which are often better for larger houses with multiple bathrooms.
Post some more info on the number of people living there, bath usage and if it is split up or sub-divided in any way0 -
Brokenwallet,
Welcome to the forum.
You are certain it is a combi boiler? Some people on this forum have confused the term with a boiler that supplies hot water to a tank and central heating. In the same way as some people refer to an electric shower as a 'power shower'.
If it is a combi, presumably it wasn't an original fitting in the house? Most houses with 3 bathrooms would have a Hot water tank(or perhaps it has a tank? - it is not unknown for a combi to feed a HW tank)
The other point is do the bathrooms have electric showers?0 -
Hi Brokenwallet,
Some more info would help us to respond in a better way.
