overdraft cancelled with no contact?

Ok, checked my account balance today and was in my overdraft (is a £500 od) And had £341 available to spend, spent £20 in asda fine.
Have just checked it and my available is no -£179.
Since this is exactly £500 difference I am assuming that they have cancelled the overdraft rather than it being an unauthorised transaction as nothing unusual is showing.
I have had no correspondance (sp) from abbey at all about this and just wondered where I stand? Am due to travel up to scotland for my sisters wedding on wednesday and now don't have a penny to my name

Call them and ask them what's happened.

  • I currently bank with HBOS. Unknown to me & quite a few people I know that bank with HBOS, our free £100 o/draft has been withdrawn. No-one has rec'd notification that this service was withdrawn & myself not using my overdraft very often was completely unaware that I would be charged interest, however minimal. Any other HBOS customers out there informed that their free o/d was no longer free? Does the bank not have to formally advise you that this service no longer exists? Just a bit disgruntled to say the least! Poor customer service!

Abbey did this with both my husband and myself at different times with no notice, both overdrafts were £500 each. I'm afraid that when we rang them we were told there was nothing they could do - tough. Just make sure you can change where you get any payments paid from or they will just help clear your overdraft and you won't see the money.
It made things extremely hard for us, my husband had his wages paid in the day after and as we couldn't stop the automated payment in time, we lost out on £500 worth of salary that month and had to borrow off friends. Looking back it worked out ok because now we don't have an overdraft(!), but Abbey are rubbish and I would get a new bank asap.
Bear in mind that they will now charge you for being overdrawn and you will probably get a debt-collection letter asking for immediate payment of it all. Really annoying. We rang them and explained that we had no notice and they gave us a week to find the money and luckily managed to get the charges reversed!
Good luck, I'm sorry they did this to you, it's a pain, I think a lot of people have had problems with overdrafts and with Abbey.
