In short-

EDF sent us bills saying we owed £0.00, I was highly suspiscous so called up and gave them a reading. A month passes and i receive a bill for £658, i was initially suprised but after talking to people it didnt seem ridiculously high, we didnt have gas. One month later we are moving property so i give a final reading. A month was £220!!!!! £878 in 6 months, 2 people in a small 1 bedroom flat who work 9-5 and watch a small tv occasionally. I enquired about having the meter checked but if not faulty i would have to stump up another £80. Any advice about what action to take? Should i just bite the bullet and pay? Help and advise or just words of sympathy would be greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to the forum,

£220 in a cold winter for an all electric flat is highish, but not unexpected.

Electric heating is the most expensive heating available.

If sympathy makes you feel better - you have it!!

What do you mean by central heating? How do your 'radiators' work?

Not to sure how they work, i just selected the times they came on and that was it. I guess the electric heated water and water was then pumped through the pipes. I have never really paid to much attention to this before as previous houses and the bills i received seemed reasonably economical. I have now learnt my lesson. Just glad we have gas heating and a working fire place now. Cheers for the help.

We are in a 2 bed all electric flat and we use over £800 between October and March. You have my sympathy too!

Hopefully where you have moved to works out cheaper for you!

Well, I've had storage heaters and electric wall panel heaters (plug in) and they're all horrendously expensive so I would imagine your radiators would have been too.

I would say that your bill is probably right with electric heating,

Thanks, will gas cut the bills quite significantly? Before the last flat (August) it had been about a year since i last had to pay bills and i think remember with gas and electric i was paying 175(max) each quarter.

Our present and last house had electric heating when we moved in. We've put gas CH in both and, being honest, we probably haven't cut the bills. But that's because we couldn't afford to heat the house with electric heating - we ended up just heating one room and moving heaters round. Would never move into a house we couldn't put central heating in.
