I wonder will the likes of the T.V. repair man make a comeback also pawn brokers and loan sharks0

The paradox is, the people buying from charity shops has risen, but their stocks are dwindling because the people who were donating are now
buying.
I took some meagre offerings resuklting from a wardrobe prune a couple of weekends ago and saw a nice shooting jacket that would do DH well, but it was over £100. I usually see them in sales at not much more than that new, so while it was a beautiful jacket I left it, and I wondered who would be buying it.

Ok they don't make profit, but libraries are getting more people in because people aren't buying new books. My friend is a librarian in one of our local libraries and she says membership has increased hugely over the last 6 months, they are holding lots of events for local pre schoolers as well to encourage families to come along and the events are free.
I have another friend who is a counsellor and she cannot take any more clients at the moment, such are the people in distress from the effects of the recession there are more people suffering depression and anxiety
Car loan £4500 - paid off early July 2013
Personal loan £4000 - paid off early June 2013
Credit card debt of £400 remaining - nearly there!0 -

With regards to libraries getting increase membership - is great. People are going back to basics instead of buying and throwing away. Since I have had my children I have been going to our local library. There is hardly ever anyone in it and I have only ever seen one other family through the doors with kids in 4 years!0 -
About 6 months ago I said to my OH that we should buy shares in one of the chocolate manufacturers as when people are down they indulge in chocolate as it makes them feel all warm and cosy. Well, we didn't do it but I heard on the news that Cadburys or some other chocolate manufacturer has made big profits so far in the recession as lots of people are turning to chocolate for comfort. Bah! :mad:
So, what items/brands/services do you think will do well/better from the recession?
Chocolate is of course made from cocoa which, unfortunately, does not grow in the UK. All imports are going to become incredibly expensive.
This page explains why the current boom in cocoa is likely to be very short-lived
http://africanagriculture.blogspot.com/2009/01/african-cocoa-enjoying-price-boom.htmlYouGov: £50 and £50 and £5 Amazon voucher received;
PPI successfully reclaimed: £7,575.32 (Lloyds TSB plc); £3,803.52 (Egg card); £3,109.88 (Egg loans)0
