Is replacement covered for 12 months? Sky Box!!

Moved to Sky Plus (not HD) last July. Had boxed replaced in October and they are coming out this week for faulty box which I imagine will be replaced. When they service or replace a box should it be covered for 12 months? , or are they still only responsible for 12 months since 1st purchase.
I need to know as if not covered I will take out the cover on the box as its sure to break again soon... or is there another tactic? I pay for the World package, so I assume a valued customer?

I think you're only covered from your initial date of contract. My cover has run out and I now have a faulty box, I was told that for the £65 callout fee I would get a further 3 months coverage on any new parts/repairs.Won in April 09 - A Wii0

Im a bit confused here? (no change there), anyway, Im a new sky + customer since November 08, I had a phone call from SKY last week, saying that as I had my equipment for 3 months now - I owned it? and would I like to take out an insurance to cover breakdown costs??? (I declined) is this normal? I thought that it would be covered for 12 months - am I wrong in thinking this?0

When and if they break down if you threaten to cancel your contract you will usually find they offer you a heavily discounted repair.0

I think thats a great idea, but wont they tell me that because I am a new customer, I agreed on a one years contract?0

They have been trying to sell me cover since I joined (less than 12 months ago).
They have fixed ours twice now! , so I would say you are covered for 12 months. They are just trying to get you to sign up ready for when the first 12 months are up.
I did think about the insurance and simply cancelling my subscription when (if) it breaks. I pay for the world package so expect they wouldn't want to lose my custom. Don't get me wrong I would love to cancel but wife is a BIG football fan, and its during the football that the ironing gets done ;>) !
thanks for the tip.0 -
The best thing to do (In my experience that is), is to not bother at all with the insurance cover and ill explain why.
I rented my place out a few years ago, and when I moved back in I found that the tennants had had sky plus installed. No problem to me, I just called sky and arranged for a standard sky package (Without plus), and had an engineer around to fit it. Fast forward about two years, (Which was about 6 months ago) and I decide to buy a cheap-ish sky plus box from ebay, and upgraded my account to plus. Sky did this free of charge as expected but after five months the sky plus box I had bought died on me, leaving me stranded..... or so I thought!!! Mwah ah ah.
I phoned sky and asked to be put straight through to the cancellations dept. (Knowing that they would be the ones who could offer the best deals), and simply ASKED how much notice I would have to give to cancel my account (Knowing full well they would ask why). They told me 28 days, and inevitably asked why I wanted to know. In the best sad voice i could muster, I told them that my sky plus box had blown up and I couldnt afford to buy a new one, or pay for one of their engineers to come and have a look, so would likely have to canel my subscription. Hey presto, three days later, I get a sky engineer on my doorstep with a brand new sky plus box, all completely free of charge. He even changed the quad LNB on the dish as it was giving out a poor (but adequate) signal.
Also, the box and dish technically belong to Sky for the firs 12 months of the subscription (Which is how they can stipulate that you must have it plugged into a phone line until after then), so if anything goes wrong, then they have to fix it free of charge. After the 12 months, use what Ive said above.
Importantly though, remember to only ASK how long would be needed to cancel the account, as I know at least one person who said they actually wanted their account cancelled as he couldnt afford it, etc. etc., and sky actually did cancel it. He then looked a bit silly asking for it to be re-instated because he only cancelled to get a free box. :rotfl:0 -
