I think the main issue will be how soon you can get an appointment.

As brokers, we score it on line and they tell us what they need ( e.g. a P60 and a payslip). If we can fax that straight over to their lending department they will normally offer the mortgage as soon as the survey report is back
I guess the branch process would be similar to that.

Going thru with nationwide at the min myself. I wouldnt say they were that fast, but if you get on the phone to them yourself, it seems to speed things up a touch. After the survey, say 7 working days before the offer comes through!
I am NOT a mortgage adviser, or anything else!
Infact, Im not an anything advisor and really dont know what im on about!
  • Be very aware of the Nationwide - since Jan 2009 they WILL NOT allow existing customers to redeem any fixed rate mortgages and move onto to ANY other Nationwide mortgages. Only options you have is to redeem the full mortgage or go to another mortgage lender. Nationwide want to keep people trapped on high interest fixed deals and make it as hard as possible to switch. A double whammy when the endowments they pushed at customers in the 1980s and 1990s are performing so badly and you want to find options for trying to repay part of mortgage. Even being a 20+ year customer doesn't make a difference to NW.

Who said customer service was dead? Oh yes, it was the Nationwide.

Are you an existing customer, Have you arranged for the surveyer to go out before you know if you can actually have a mortgage because i think that is what we will be doing dont know if this is the routine nationwide use. The only thing is you lose the fee that has been paid if you get rejected.

Quick question. We have a fixed deal with nationwide which ends 31st May 2009. If we decide to go with another fixed deal, do we need to get another valuation done on our house, even though they had a valuation done 3yrs ago and do we pay for surveyors fee. I thought we would just arrange a new mortgage and pay any arrangement fee - am I wrong in my assumptions?

a week for us too from application to offer going direct through a nationwide branch.

we are porting our mortgage and borrowing an additional amount which we can then switch and fix with our first mortgage when we come off our deal in nov.

No problems at all! hope it goes ok for you.
