Car scrap incentive plan nonsense

I got rid of my second car a few years ago, will they give me £2k for my push bike?
I was thinking the same. We're waiting on our second V reg car/battle wagon to die a horrible death/run out of tax/fail MOT before we get rid of it. We'd be more inclined to scrap it if the incentive was for rail/bus discounts/vouchers. We both already have push bikes that we use regularly where possible.0 -
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/germany/4863277/German-scrapping-bonus-is-a-boost-for-car-sales.htmlHow many people driving around in 10 yera old cars would trade them in for new ones anyway the scrapping initiative would have to be pretty good
A lot in Germany it seems....
Although there's another 'incentive' at play too...

So if you buy an old banger for two hundred quid, will you be able to 'scrap' it for £2k? Sounds like a plan of sorts.
An a small new car can be had for £6k - so a £4k brand new run around.... could tempt a few who wouldn't be 'new' car customers... is it so stupid bailing out the car industry this way than any other?0 -
You misunderstand me. I was not commenting on the sense of the idea. I was running through my mind whether it could save me money on a new car.barnaby-bear wrote: »An a small new car can be had for £6k - so a £4k brand new run around.... could tempt a few who wouldn't be 'new' car customers... is it so stupid bailing out the car industry this way than any other?0 -
Actually this isn't a sales tactic, we in the motor trade are genuinely concerned about our ever fragile environment. Why does everyone think the motor trade is riddled with lying cheats ? :rolleyes:0

I agree with most of the comments. If they just said that they were trying to stimulate the motor industry then I'd have some sympathy. But to Greenwash it just annoys me.Happy chappy0

Even your standard family new-car, like a Focus or an Auris, needs to fall by more than £2000 anyway - without this "subsidy."
Raw material prices like steel have plunged, advertising rates both on TV, magazine/newspaper and internet under downwards price pressure.
No shortage of willing labour wanting to keep their jobs and wage pressures downwards, huge world-wide manufacturing over-capacity, component companies being squeezed by manufacturers to reduce costs, international cargo rates down 90% (reported in Telegraph), lack of credit, or expensive rates for poor credit risks, and more unwilling to spend or take on credit for expensive purchases from better credit risks. Deflation, but an industry that is in denial, except in the US, where more reports are now coming through of dealers willing to sell at 50% off old world prices.0
