Buying stamps on ebay???

I was amazed today to find by accident someone selling first class stamps on ebay unused!! I didnt think it was allowed. So I typed in "First Class Stamps" and found loads of people doing it. How do you think they make a profit from it and where do they get them from?

Heres one of them:

  • Also if they say 'no gum' it mean that they have been used and managed to miss being stamped.
  • Hi,

I work for royal mail and have noticed that there is an upsurge in forged stamps lately, not saying that these are forged but proper stamps have a special layer on them to prevent them being forged which our machines pick up to determine what class and price they are. If this is not present or not correct the letter get thrown out and surcharged, this means the addressee has to pay for them. My advice is to steer well clear, its like someone selling money almost..hmmm

Just be careful. Criminal investigations are taking place to find the source of forged stamps and where they are being sold.

    Cheers Rob

There are some internet sites where you can buy stamps in bulk i think. But don't test me on it lol.
    Cashback sites are worth it:
    GP Cashback- £50 (£35 paid)
    PigsBack- £5.00 (£30 paid)
    Topcashback- £40 (£40 paid)
    Quidco- £50 (£43 paid)
    Ipoints- 500 + 2 CDs claimed
  • Could be all sorts of reasons. But it does sound suspicious. You are supposed to be able to get the value of the stamp if you hand it in at the post office, which is why people send each other postage stamps in the mail to pay small amounts of money.

I buy loads in the course of my mystery shopping work, far more than I can possibly use at times, and have sold them on Ebay before now. I always state that they have gum so people know they haven't been picked off envelopes.

Places like Costco sell stamps at below face value. If you think about it - how do corner shops sell books of stamps and make a profit? They must get a discount from the Royal Mail to sell them on.
  • They dont get a discount, they sell them in the hope you will buy something else.
  • The Answer to stamps on sale on ebay could be found in the bidding list of this member.

    http://cgi6.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidItems&userid=roland.deschain.of.gilead&completed=1&all=1&rows=25&sort=3

Notice what he has been bidding on he buys:

3.5kg (3500g) Of Mixed UNSORTED Kiloware

must soak them in some solution to bring off the franking and Gum (hence no gum unfranked) then resells them as :

100 x 1st Class Unfranked Stamps NO GUM face value £30

    See his sales as well:

    http://cgi6.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MfcISAPICommand=ViewListedItems&since=30&userid=roland.deschain.of.gilead&include=0&rows=50&sort=3&completed=1

Charity shops buy collect the used stamps also then sell them on maybe he gets them from their also.

Can anyone else read anything else into this?
