Worcester 35 cdi ,LOW Temprature hot water Problem....Please HELP!!!!!

Hi
i have a Worcester 35cdi, it has been working perfectly for 2 yrs but now the hot water is coming out only luke warm.there are no flashing fault lights, could it be some kind of thermostat fault or is it the control board?

When you first turn on the Hot water tap the water comes out boiling hot but gradually it will cool down until it becomes Warm and it will not heat up any further. i can see the boiler is firing correctly and there are no error codes on the display.

The initial temperature is 64 - Even if the Hot water control is set to MAX.
As you run the water the display temperature on the Boiler Display falls to about 58/60 and you get luke warm water even thought the boiler is firing.

The central heating is fine and the control works fine if you set it high it will reach 84+. However, the hot water never seems to go about 64 anymore.

Can any one help diagnose the problem please.

I assume, by the age of the boiler, its a Greenstar 35CDI combi. Theres a few possibilities for this, unlikely to be the control board though. You may have a problem with the flow turbine, diverter valve motor or a blockage in the plate heat exchanger. Do you know when the boiler was fitted?. All Worcester appliances come with a 2 year parts and labour warranty. Even if its just out of warranty, give them a call. They are one of the most helpful manufacturers out there and are usually very helpful.
  • it's about 3 months over 2 years since it was fitted.

Having spent some time researching the faults - i am now pretty sure itls the diverter valve as the central heating pipe is hot when i run the water.

Anyone know what that would cost to get repaired/replaced???

Might give gthema a bell tomm and see what that say.

    thankyou for that
  • OK, after much a do...finally got to bottom of my prblem.

The boiler is working perfectly...The problem was a faulty mixer shower.

This was allowing the higer pressure maan water back into the system and thus even though the bolier was producing hot water as normal the water never got hot.

Thank god i found this fault before i paid for a expensive corgi man/women to come and tell me this.

Glad you got to the bottom of it. A cross leak from a shower or washing machine are tough to spot and diagnose. Fits your symptoms perfectly though. Just for future reference, usual breakdown callout charges are around £200

Hi, can you tell me how you diagnosed this problem please? I have the exact same problem - luke warm water in the bathroom, even though water is on highest setting and boiler is firing correctly.

I'm at my witts end after months of luke warm baths/showers! Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Thank you

LOL....Sorry didn't mean to laugh...but that made me laugh....Cus i was in the exact same situation....thinking it was going to cost me hundreds to get the diverter valve changed...cus everything was pointing to that from what i read on the internet.

The way i diognosed the problem is that:-

Turned on the downstairs tap - (luke warm water surprise surprise....)
Then i took off the cover under the boiler where the pipes are and felt the output from the boiler i could immediatly tell there was something a mis cus the pipe leading out was boiling hot, and boiler ws firing normally.

Luckly for me the downstairs hot water leads off before going upstaris and as i felt my way to the t junction i could immedialty tell that there was cold water coming cus the pipe was freezing cold at the juction.

Therefore, the only logical reason for that was that the main water was circulating back into the hot water from one of the mixers. it turned out to be the thermostatic shower. This is where the orignal problem started...this shower stopped heating up a while back...before this cold water problem started.

Basically the mains water pressure is alot higer then anything the boiler can pump out so it circulates back to the open tap.

Tell you what though....getting a bluddy CORGi out is like trying to get blood from a stone....LOL....probaly a goot think in this case though....don;t need some smug CORGi telling me that and then charging me a callout and hour labour....easy 100 there....:)))...i;m in the worng job...
  • I've had a similar problem before.

Tinker, are all the hot taps in the house cold or just the shower? Trace along the pipes from the boiler (while the hot is on) to work out where it starts going cold. If it's cold from the boiler it's likely to be that.

I ended up taking the cover off the bath and discovering the pipe was hot to the mixer inlet. conclusion: it was the mixer tap (cartridge was b**gered).
  • If it's the boiler...be prepared to pay and arm and a leg....them things ain't cheap to repair normally....:))

Thanks for your replies guys. WobblyGoblin - it's just the bathroom taps and shower that are cold. Kitchen is fine - I've even on occasion resorted to running back and forth from the kitchen with bowls of piping hot water to fill the bath!!

I will try tracing along the pipes to see where the prob starts. Again, thanks for the advice - I'll let you know if I manage to solve the problem
