Compensation for recorded Delivery

Hi I hope someone can give me sone advice here.

I've recently sold quite a few things on Amazon Marketplace and Ebay, mostly things worth around £20 dvds, video games and so on.
I've used Recorded Delivery either 1st or 2nd for this.

On checking up on their track and trace system some of the items took really long to arrive e.g posted on the 4th didnt arrive till 16th and some like a nintendo game I posted on the 3rd Feb shows as still being in the postal system.

Can i claim some compensation here? The woman may well have received her nintendo game, but i have no way of knowing if this is the case. I did email her and ask if she got it ok but she never got back to me. Is the fact that no signature has been provided enough to claim? And if i do claim do I need to prove how mcuh the game is worth eg. the ebay transaction details?

I have tried looking at the RM site but i got really confused so if someone could explain VERY clearly to me that would help a lot.

As I understand Recorded delivery is just that. It is not insurance, it's for establishing that something arrived or not.
This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !

There is no compensation for delay but there is compensation if item arrives without a signature being obtained. You still need to get the standard claim form from the Royal Mail and sort of adjust it to fit, I do a batch at a time for recorded with no signature and usually get a book of 1st class stamps for every one delivered with no sig.

For ebay and Amazon though you do need to consider whether recorded is worth it, many sellers myself included, use standard 2nd class mail so cna undercut your prices by a minumum of 72p before we even start. With so many recorded items failing to get a signature you gain nothing by using it as anything los tin the postal system is insured up to £36 regardless of whether recorded is used or not but as long as a certificate of posting is obtained at time of posting.

Well don't read it. You've already had at least 2 user id's PPR'd - go and argue with people on the Vent forum if you really want to resume your hobby winding people up.

Unfortunately I may well be on the other end of a similar problem at the moment, since I've been expecting a couple of parcels for two weeks now which may well have gome missing! ..

The RM web-site seems pretty useless to me .. but there is Postcomm, who are the independent regulator.

Why do you need the RM website though, if you are the recipient then surely you don't need to be told that the item hasn't arrived

If you imagine you can track it somehow then that is not the case as recorded is not tracked all the site can tell you is if item has been delivered or not.

If item fails to arrive then get sender to make a claim from Royal Mail for loss, no need to involve postcomm as they will have expected all the RM systems and complaints to have been done first. Gett the sender to download a claim form from the RM site and use that together with the recorded slip to reclaim the loss. Remember though to tell them to keep copies of everything as the claims themselves cna often go astray.
