trying not to cry here - don't know if anyone could help?
I have a place on a social work degree starting in sept 2009.
however, in my stupid younger days i completed 1 and half years of a degree then dropped out (1997 - 1999). on applying to student finance they tell me as i have had 2 years loans already i will only qualify for 2 years funding for this degree - years 2 and 3. i won't even get a loan for tuition fees.
i could probably cope with no living expenses loans for the 1st year - just spending every waking hour working but i just can't see how i can raise £3225 on top.
yes i know i was completely stupid 1st time round but this time i know exactly what i want to do and there is no way i would muck it up again.
any ideas v v gratefully accepted

There are no other ways you can get funding, they are the rules.
Only thing is, get a job, save up, then go.0 -
Hi OP,
Don't beat yourself up about what happened in the past, sometimes these things happen - the fact you are coming back to education after a rough experience the first time is a good sign and shows a level of deterimation that will really help you
You have a good few months before you go to uni. Is there anyway you can start to save now so you can make a dent in the shortfall?
I would also contact the uni and ask them for an example timetable/contact hours - this is just so you can see what free time you will have and how perhaps you could work some paid work around your course.
Have you considered part-time study to spread the costs a little bit?
I don't know the ins and outs of things like the hardship loans/access to learning grants, but I am sure someone will be along soon who does:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 -

Either defer for a year and save up, or go part-time for the first year (spread over two years) then full time once you have student finance in place.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Have you taken the Social Work Bursary into account in your planning?0
-
thanks ONW I had completely forgotten about the bursary - that will cover the tuition fees, and I have an interview fri with a care agency (if all else fails homecare work is always there like an old friend!!)
feel much more positive now - just a bit panicked this aft when found out i would be 10k worse off than i had budgetted for!:rolleyes:0
