how about a mse members fantasy portfolio ??
we can pick a stock and put it into a virtual mse portfolio etc and see how it goes is there any chance this could be a sticky if it takes off in the savings and investment board ??
what do fellow savers and investors think ??

That's a good idea.
Are there websites that do this and you can have a group doing it? Like the fantasy footbally sites that let you and your mates have your own league?0 -
Interesting idea. Would it be a high risk portfolio, low risk or medium risk?
If we did it, I think it should be low/medium. Anyone can make money when things go up. Its when things go down that it gets interesting.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
It's a very interesting idea but I don't see MSE letting it happen, unfortunately. Discussion of shares being a no-no and all that. Shame, because it would be very educational IMHO.0

There are other sites where you can do this. I use the investors chronicle one, which is free to sign up to:
http://ic.bbtradinggames.co.uk/login.php?error=1
You get £100k for share trading and £100k for spreadbetting. You get dealing charges and stamp duty for the shares, so it is reasonably realistic.0 -
Try:
http://ic.bbtradinggames.co.uk/login.php?error=1
which is the free investors chronicle share trading and spreadbetting game. Its quite realistic and has leagues etc.
Good luck!!0 -
yeah i was kinda hoping that we could get MSE to rival fool, i understand that share trading isnt allowed to be discussed but i think maybe we could have a forum say where you had to click an "I agree" kind of entry and just basically said that share views are nothing to do with mse etc.
yeah i was thinking maybe we could have our own portfolio each etc and they would be ranked every month or something or we could just post a tip each and then have it as a sticky at the top of the board and just track it ourselves and state the buy price.
high risk well i guess we could definately develope a strategy to the HYP they have over at fool and maybe we could compare performance etc
but i do think the board name says it all "savings and investments"
i also think that some of the motley fool people will come over here due to MSE forums being much better, more organised and easier to use.
i think this could be agreat oppurtunity for martin to add further weight to the already excellent reputation of MSE forum's.0 -

ReportInvestor wrote:Quite. Can you believe that a "professional" site has such archaic bulletin boards :rotfl:.
Funnily enough, most Fools - including me - like the MF boards just the way they are. The odd newcomer makes similar comments to yours but the MF boards are actually much easier to use than most BBs; it's just that most people are used to this format.0 -
conservatism is in our nature, cc. I just hadn't associated it with the TMF trademark & readership until now.
It's still a top site, though.0 -
i totally agree i think its a top site too but personally i find the boards a tad bit old it kinda reminds me of when i had a 14.4kbps modem but i think cheerful cat is right that once you get used to them there ok.
but imagine what a force mse would be to fool, fool has everything credit cards savings, etc i think mse could become bigger and better than fool boards if we had a shares/investments board.
p.s i have started a poll if anyoe would like to vote for a board please do so as im hoping to drum up some support and present it to martin in the hope we can work something outthanks
